Upcoming Midterm Elections: Midterm vs. Eternal

Share

Most everyone will remember where they were the night of November 8, 2016, for it was one of the most spectacular nights in US politics.  That night, against all odds, against all polls, against all conventional wisdom, Donald Trump was elected the 45th president of the United States. Things have hardly been normal since. Whatever your personal bent, I trust you will agree that we live in very interesting ‘political’ times!

In just about a week there is to be another round of voting, and some are saying that this next round will be of greater importance than that of November 2016. Of course I’m referring to the Midterm elections coming on November 6. On that day, millions will take to the polls across America in what is being call “the most consequential midterm elections in modern U.S. history.” Most eyes will be on the 35 or so seats up for grabs in the Senate.  This is high-stakes politics for sure!

Although this is all quite interesting, and consequential, the actual election is not my main focus here (aren’t you glad?).  The reason is because this particular election, as with all others before or after it, will soon be nothing more than a vague memory.  But there is an election that you and I are ‘voting’ in every day of our lives that has eternal consequences.  Read what God says carefully:

Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you shall never fall. 2 Peter 1:10

I’ll admit, it’s easy to get caught up in the excitements of this world, whether politics, sports, entertainment, or any number of distractions that could make our calling and election unsure.  But really, is anything more important than living forever with Jesus? NO. Nothing.

This is certainly a time for prayer. To my readers I issue this call for prayer: Pray for our leaders. Pray for our country.  Pray that you and I will not be found “weighed in the balance and found wanting” (Daniel 5:27). Right now would be a great time to pause, and ask Jesus to come into your life anew. Only He has the power to save, heal, forgive, and restore.  No politician on any ballot on November 6 has that kind of power. Period. And unlike the many promises being thrown around in hopes of garnishing your vote, the Lord’s promises are sure, trustworthy, and exceedingly precious.

To build your spiritual life, I am also pleased to announce that our newest 10-part series of half-hour radio programs called, “The Protestant Reformation: Then and Now,” is now available for only $19.95 as an Audio CD Set from White Horse Media. You can order on our website, or by calling 1-800-782-4253.

Yes, we’ll be watching what happens on November 6.

But more importantly, let’s prepare ourselves for entrance into God’s eternal kingdom.

  1. Jesus said His Kingdom is not of this world, why? Because His Kingdom is Build upon Love, Truth and Freedom. God will not impose Himself on His Creation. He Cherishes our Love and detests Fear. The governments of this world are established upon imposed law. It has to be this way because of Selfishness. God’s Law is not Imposed, it is Love, Truth and Freedom. Praise His Name!!!

  2. Hi Pastor Steve
I agree with you 100 percent. This election is important, but more important is our salvation and our trust that Jesus will be with us and our nation during this turbulent times.
I have never seen one person such as our president create such turmoil except for satan. This democracy definitely needs our prayers.
Thank you for your message today!!
    Sincerely
    Kaye Latt

    1. Our president is not creating turmoil! And how can you compare him to satan? Which is really a very harsh judgement of Trump. President Trump is not perfect and regardless of his “character flaws” the Lord is using him. The Lord used imperfect people all throughout the Bible. Think of the character defects that Christ’s apostles had. Think of King Nebuchadnezzar. King David committed adultery and murder. Ben Carson saw the potential good that Trump was capable of doing. He is the best man for our country at this time. Pray for our country. Pray for our leaders including our President Trump. Sincerely, Cindy

  3. Let’s not be ignorant of Satan’s devices, his ultimate aim to to create chaos, hatred and death to all of Gods creation, let our focus be on Jesus Christ, his pattern of live and let’s not fight the fight of man, but in these moment put on the whole armor of God. The president we so much admire today, can turn around to be a tool in the devils hand if he choses to ignore Gods principles and keeps seeding animosity.the real enemy is Satan, let’s not dwell in hatered which is the devils destructive tool and think God will be pleased with our actions, since we are protecting our country, remember Jesus says everything we so much see now will pass away. All man made kingdoms will fade, history proves this. So why not focus on heaven which is eternal.
