As everyone knows, most Christians attend church on Sunday (“the first day of the week”), yet they usually don’t realize that their own Bibles actually teach that Saturday (“the seventh day”) is the biblical day of worship (see Gen. 2:1-3; Exod. 20:8-11; Isaiah 58:13,14). “But I’m a New Testament Christian, not a Jew,” many respond, “that’s why I keep Sunday, not Saturday.” If these are your thoughts, consider this: Jesus Christ kept the seventh-day Sabbath (Luke 4:16), declared Himself “Lord even of the Sabbath day” (Matthew 12:8), and His own followers (imitating His example) kept the seventh-day Sabbath after He died (see Luke 23:54-56). Yet here’s perhaps the most significant point of all: Jesus never mentioned “the first day of the week” (Sunday) even once during His public ministry.
