Inspiration: Young People on Fire for Jesus Christ

The book of Revelation – inspired by Jesus Christ Himself (see Revelation 1:1) — predicts that in the “last days” before the great and awesome Day of the Lord a special message proclaimed by three holy angels is to be given to “every nation, tribe, tongue and people” (see Revelation 14:6-14). This prediction is currently being fulfilled by faithful Seventh-day Adventists who are giving their hearts, souls, time, and means to the work of spreading these exact truths worldwide. We at White Horse Media are thrilled that God has given us a part in this sacred work too, not just in America, but in many other countries. In this E-news, we will feature the story of an unusual group of young people in southern India.

Akhil and his friends noticed there were some Adventist churches in their area that, due to various difficulties, had been closed. They had no pastors to minister to the needs of the people, or to lead out in outreach.  Built years ago during a flurry of evangelistic activities, these churches had not received the pastoral care or the nurture needed.  Budget cuts in the local Mission added to the plight.  So, Akhil and his young friends decided to do something bold for God.

The closed churches were dirty and overgrown with weeds. No services were being held.  So, Akhil and his friends put their hands to the plow.   First, they began cleaning and making them presentable again.  Then they began to reopen churches and hold services themselves, trusting that God would bless their humble efforts.  No one was paying them to do this and there was no pastor, only a group of poor students who had a love for the Lord and His work.

Akhil and his team are extremely poor in this world’s goods, yet they are rich in the love of Jesus and in their desire to spread His truth. As part of the world-wide Adventist movement involved in spreading the Three Angels’ Messages, they knew they couldn’t just sit around and do nothing while God’s word advances rapidly in so many other places.

Recently one of our White Horse Media friends in India spent some time with Akhil and his team and noted how they would skip meals and even deprive themselves of sleep when necessary to do God’s work.  So far, they have reopened five (5) churches and have up to ten (10) more to work on.

In Old Testament times, amidst foreboding circumstances, Nehemiah and his fellow workers declared by faith, “The God of heaven, he will prosper us; therefore we his servants will arise and build [the broken down wall around Jerusalem]” (Nehemiah 2:20). Such words ring true today for Akhil and his associates.

There are more than 20 youth volunteers on Akhil’s team.  He has secured permission from the Adventist Conference President to re-open those churches.  They can clean and make the buildings look good again, restart services, and renew outreach to their community. But their resources are limited.

How much more effective could they be if they were equipped with laptops, projectors and a portable sound system for their evangelistic endeavors?  This is where you can help. Giving a gift this month will not only bless White Horse Media, but will also be used to help equip Akhil and his on-fire-for-Jesus team of youth evangelists.
