California Could Pass Anti-Free Speech Legislation for the Internet

California Senator Richard Pan, a pediatrician and the author of a vaccination bill that forces all parents in California to vaccinate their children without regard to beliefs, has introduced another anti-freedom bill to limit free speech on the Internet. Pan’s new bill proposes to require “online fact checkers” to verify content before anything can be posted on the internet.

Pan’s new bill would essentially outlaw questioning the government’s official narrative in California, or for that matter anyone who would express views that are debatable. Imagine explaining historical facts that governments, churches or other entities have tried to hide. Will Internet sites become tangled up in legal battles for just expressing an opinion? Imagine attempting to provide creation science elated information that flies in the face of the evolutionary model of origins. Will, those sites be accused of spreading fake science information? Imagine attempting to explain the meaning of the fall of Babylon in the third angel’s message, giving the historical verification of spiritual Babylon. What difficulties would arise from presenting hidden facts that are not generally accepted as true? Fact checkers websites could easily be controlled to provide false information or skewed information that would deny the truths of scripture or any other unapproved fact.

The leftists in power are working hard to limit freedom of speech and control information and produce propaganda. Apparently, the Department of Homeland Security was recently instructed to compile a database of all journalists and online “media influencers.” We would ask, what for? They call it “Media Monitoring Services,” a benign-sounding term that is actually referring to human rights violations.

America is the land of the free. But if this bill passes in California, it will give the state powerful regulatory force to prosecute “speech criminals.”

Here is what the bill (SB 1424) actually says.

This bill would require any person who operates a social media, as defined, Internet Web site with a physical presence in California to develop a strategic plan to verify news stories shared on its Web site. The bill would require the plan to include, among other things, a plan to mitigate the spread of false information through news stories, the utilization of fact-checkers to verify news stories, providing outreach to social media users, and placing a warning on a news story containing false information.

(a) Any person who operates a social media Internet Web site with physical presence in California shall develop a strategic plan to verify news stories shared on its Internet Web site.
(b) The strategic plan shall include, but is not limited to, all of the following:
(1) A plan to mitigate the spread of false information through news stories.
(2) The utilization of fact-checkers to verify news stories.
(3) Providing outreach to social media users regarding news stories containing false information.
(4) Placing a warning on a news story containing false information.
(c) As used in this section, “social media” means an electronic service or account, or electronic content, including, but not limited to, videos, still photographs, blogs, video blogs, podcasts, instant and text messages, email, online services or accounts, or Internet Web site profiles or locations.

When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near.” Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 5, page 451.
