A thousand controversies seek our attention, but God has impressed me to focus on the core truths of His Word. As I do, I sense His blessing, which is worth more to me than life itself. One core biblical truth is that our Creator made our world in six literal 24-hour days and rested on the seventh day (Gen. 1,2). That’s why we have a 7-day weekly cycle. After Adam and Eve sinned, their descendants became so evil that God finally drowned them all in a worldwide flood (Gen. 6-8) as an example of what He will do again at the close of time (2 Pet. 3:5-14). If Satan— through similar subtle reasoning that deceived Eve—can destroy our faith in God’s Book, he’s got us, and we are much more likely to share his fate in the coming “lake of fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Revelation 20:14,15. Paul warned that “the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.” 2 Tim. 4:3,4.
