Timely Tidings

The Tragedy of Whitney Houston

As a young girl, vivacious Whitney Houston sang spirited gospel songs at her home church in New Jersey. The future looked bright. Later nicknamed "The Voice," she could sing like no other. But at the age of 48 -- after heavy partying and booze-fueled fights -- she overdosed on alcohol, cocaine and prescription drugs, and then drowned in a bathtub in her room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. "Don't remember me like this," she reportedly told her daughter before her death.

Poor Whitney's life ended in tragedy, and screams these lessons to us all:

  • But for the grace of God, there go I.
  • Avoid wrong crowds like the plague.
  • Bad influences can destroy your life.
  • Its not enough to enter a race. You must finish, too.
  • "Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." Romans 12:21
